(BLOOMINGTON) - All-Options Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) and Middle Way House are announcing that the two agencies will co-host a vigil and banner drop for incarcerated parents and their families on Mother's Day.

The event will take place on Sunday, May 13th from 1-2 p.m. outside of the Monroe County Correctional Center on College Avenue (near the corner of 8th Street). They invite all community members to join them in a show of support for parents incarcerated within Monroe County who are separated from their children.

Eighty percent of women in jails throughout the nation are mothers who are most often the primary caretakers of their children. Incarcerated women are overwhelmingly survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Research informs us that for most of these women, this violence played a significant role in their incarceration. All-Options PRC and Middle Way House each offer resources to assist people experiencing violence and abuse, including those who are or have formerly been incarcerated.

At All-Options, people can find unconditional support around pregnancy, parenting, abortion, and adoption in addition to peer counseling, free pregnancy tests, abortion funding, and diaper supplies. In addition to a broad range of client-driven services to survivors of domestic abuse sexual violence, and human trafficking throughout six counties in southern Indiana, Middle Way House currently offers a weekly support group to survivors of violence within the Monroe County Correctional Center as well as collaborates with other agencies, All-Options among them, to host monthly letter writing nights to incarcerated survivors.

"I am so pleased for Middle Way House to collaborate with All-Options to show support for and create awareness of incarcerated parents," said Debra Morrow, Executive Director of Middle Way House. "Middle Way House supports all survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and human trafficking, including those who are incarcerated," said Morrow.

"Many of All-Options' clients readily feel the impact of state violence on their families and may be survivors of incarceration themselves," noted Shelly Dodson, Center Director at All-Options PRC. "All-Options is committed to providing all people with judgement-free support and services - like abortion funding and diaper assistance - while raising community awareness around prison abolition. We're delighted to work in partnership with Middle Way House on the Mama's Day effort."
