Three Killed, Three Injured In Crash On State Road 46

(MONROE CO.) - Three people were killed, three seriously injured in head-on crash on State Road 46 near Stinesville Road on Sunday morning.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Department reports that 40-year-old Michael Mascoe and 45-year-old Rhonda Mascoe, both of Spencer, were pronounced dead at the scene. Rhonda Mascoe's daughter, 19-year-old Zoey Bennington, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Two other children, Mikey Mascoe, a second-grader at Spencer Elementary School, and his sister Grace Mascoe, a fourth-grader were transported from the scene. One is listed in critical condition and the other in serious condition.

Police say 56-year-old Timothy Gill of Gosport was traveling west on State Road 46 in his Chevrolet truck when he drifted off the edge of the road and then over-corrected and crossed the center line a when he struck the Hyundai driven by Rhonda Mascoe head-on.

Gill was taken to Bloomington Hospital and was reported in stable condition, according to the sheriff's office.

The Mascoe family was headed to Columbus at the time of the collision for the second day of a softball tournament where Grace was a player.

The cause of death for both Michael Mascoe and Zoey Bennington has been listed as blunt force trauma. An autopsy for Rhonda Mascoe is scheduled for 8 a.m. today in Terre Haute.
