Steve Fisher To Serve As Interim Director Of North Lawrence Career Center

Last updated on Tuesday, April 3, 2018

(BEDFORD) - North Lawrence Community School officials announced Steve Fisher has been named interim director of the North Lawrence Career Center.

Fisher was asked to fill the position after the Technical Education Division of Indiana Department of Education was asked to conduct an extensive audit of all aspects of the North Lawrence Career Center program.

Monday afternoon, North Lawrence Career Center Director Glenn Weil and counselor Kim Magness were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into serious irregularities in vocational program reporting.

The North Lawrence School board will hold an emergency executive session to deal with the situation on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The meeting is not open to the public.

Fisher, who recently retired as superintendent of New Castle Community Schools, has been an educator for 40 years.
No stranger to Southern Indiana, Fisher taught at Loogootee for 18 years and was an administrator for North Posey and Clarksville Schools.

A retired IHSAA official, Fisher spent many hours in notable Southern Indiana gyms. He was recently inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Fisher will spend most of his time at the NLCC, while also teaching part-time at Franklin College.

The center serves students from five area districts in addition to North Lawrence - Shoals, Mitchell, Orleans, Medora and Brownstown.
