(ORLEANS) - The Orleans Post Office is celebrating the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the Orleans Dogwood Festival with a special local postmark available only on Saturday, April 21.

Orleans Postmaster Lora Daugherty says the commemorative postmark will be applied on the festival's opening weekend Saturday morning to all envelopes, cards or any other items bearing First-Class postage stamps.

The Post Office hours of operation on that Saturday will be 9:30 a.m. to 12 Noon.

Those who cannot attend the event but who wish to obtain the postmark may submit a mail order request by April 21.
Customers wishing to obtain a postmark should affix stamps to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiĀness, and tuck in the flap. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to: PICTORIAL POSTĀMARKS, followed by the Orleans Post Officer with the city, state and zip code.

If someone is going to be out of town, they can bring the card/postcard to the Orleans Post Officer the week before and officials will postmark the item on the 21st and resident can come back in an pick up the item when they return to town, Daughtery says.
