27-year-old Ashley Schulz is facing a felony charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury.

Both were arrested Wednesday. Levi Schultz posted a $2,005 cash bond Friday and was released. Ashley Schulz remains in custody on a $2,005 cash bond or $20,000 surety.

According to a Lawrence County Superior Court I probable cause affidavit, the Department of Child Services caseworker visited the Schultz home in Oolitic on Feb. 15 because the couple's 5-year-old had not been in school since before Christmas. The child returned to school on Feb. 12th with redness and swelling to his hand.

The child told authorities the injury resulted from Levi Schulz burning his hands with hot water in the kitchen sink.

Levi Schultz told investigators he didn't mean to hurt the child, just to scare him.

Neither Levi or Ashley Schultz took the child for medical treatment.
