Lower Number Of People Ticketed And Arrested During Little 500 Races

Last updated on Monday, April 23, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police said in all it was a quiet weekend in Bloomington during the Little 500 races.

Thirty people landed in the Monroe County Correctional Center on Friday, and 28 Saturday. The IU Police Department made a total of 26 arrests from midnight Thursday to Sunday morning.

This year, only 102 tickets were issued. Those ticketed were allowed to avoid misdemeanor and felony charges by participating in an annual special pretrial diversion program. Those who choose to participate in the program -- which is voluntary -- paid $429, did community service Sunday and will complete drug and alcohol education classes sometime during this week. If they stay out of trouble for a year, the charges are dismissed from their record. Those who opt out of the program proceed through the court system.
