Lawrence County Global 6K For Water May 19th

Last updated on Thursday, April 26, 2018

(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Global 6K for Water is Saturday May 19th at the Parkview Intermediate School Track.

The race starts at 9 a.m., but arrive early to enjoy family fun events like bounce houses, face painting and food.

The distance of this race is significant. Six kilometers (approximately 3.7 miles) is the average distance people - usually women and girls - walk to get water for their families and homes in the developing world. Often, the walk is dangerous, children miss school, and the water is dirty.

Each $50 registration includes an event t-shirt, bib with a child's name and photo printed on it for you and lasting clean water for a child in the developing world. Registration is only $25 for youth under 18.

In addition, there will be a competition between area schools. Whichever school has the most participation among families and staff will get a special visit from Damon Bailey.

The Lawrence County Global 6K for Water will start at the Parkview Intermediate School Track and continue passed the National Guard Armory onto 22nd St. From 22nd St. onto Washington Ave and continue south until the corner of 27th street. Participants will take a right on 27th St. and continue all the until it intersects with 29th St. From there, runners will take 29th and head east and reach Washington Ave where they will make their way back to the Parkview Intermediate School Track.

The Lawrence County Global 6K for Water is just one race of many across the globe in their mission to bring life-changing, clean water and fullness of life to children in communities around the world.

Those interested in joining to community team, started by Dive Christian Church, can register by clicking here.

"We've been looking to do outreach in the community for a while now," said Phil O'Toole, member of Dive Christian Church and race organizer.

O'Toole continued to say that Dive Christian Church is very active in their program CRAM, Christ Reaching Asia Mission and that their members are in countries that face the struggle for water every day.

The decision to bring Global 6K for Water to Lawrence County went "hand in hand" for Dive Christian Church and they ask all community organizations and churches to join the Lawrence County team.
