(BEDFORD) - Hoosier Hills Food Bank will distribute food boxes from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church Bedford.
There will also be an open enrollment opportunity to sign up for the program.
The 40-pound box contains staple food items including: two boxes of cereal, two bags of pasta, two bottles of juice, two cartons of shelf-stable milk, canned fruits and vegetables, a protein item such as beans or peanut butter, a can of beef stew, and a two-pound block of cheese.
CSFP is a United States Department of Agriculture program administered through the Indiana State Department of Health. The Food Bank is now enrolling seniors in all six counties where it operates the program -- Lawrence, Monroe, Orange, Owen, Martin and Brown.
To qualify seniors must live in Lawrence County, be 60 years of age or older and earn a total household income that is 130 percent or less of the Federal Income Poverty Level. For a one-person household this is currently $1,316 a month or $15,782 a year; for a two-person household this is $1,784 a month or $21,398 a year.
Before applicants can pick up a box, food bank staff will need to verify their address with a photo I.D.
