Four Honored With Community Awards During Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner

(MITCHELL) - The Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce gave community awards during their annual dinner at Spring Mill State Park on Thursday night.

The Business of the Year recipient is Bedford Ford Lincoln Mercury.

The Volunteer of the Year is Suzanne Patton, owner of Mitchell's Ben Franklin/Ace Hardware store.

The Citizen of the Year honoree is Kenny Merry. Merry was a bus driver for Mitchell Community Schools. Merry, 85, still volunteers in the community by serving as stage chairman for the Persimmon Festival .

Hoosier Uplands Economic Development Corporation was honored with the Community Enhancement Award. In 2017, Hoosier Uplands spent $100,000 to purchase and clear blighted properties, improving the appearance of the town. Hoosier Uplands also spent $130,000 in a partnership with the City of Mitchell to pour new sidewalks in town.
