Last updated on Tuesday, April 17, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police continue to investigate a shooting Sunday that left a 20-year-old Georgia man with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police arrested the man's father, who is also from Georgia, after he admitted to punching his son during an argument but denied firing the gun.

According to Bloomington Police Lt. John Kovach, officers were called to the parking lot of Big Red Liquors in the 400 block of North College Avenue at 3:35 a.m. after a 911 call reporting four or five gunshots and people yelling in the parking lot.

The caller who was at Kilroy's Sports Bar says he ran toward the commotion and saw two men put another man into a truck and flee north on Walnut Street.

Police found several spent shell casings in the liquor store's parking lot.

Police then received a call reporting men in a truck were causing a disturbance outside at motel in the 1700 block of North Walnut Street.

Police rushed to the scene and found the son with a gunshot wound to his right leg. He was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.

Police found both ammunition and blood inside the truck, but no gun.

Police interviewed the 45-year-old Kippy Senior who admitted to police he had punched his son in the face, causing his lip to bleed. He was arrested on charges of domestic battery and possession of marijuana and taken to the Monroe County Jail.

Lt. Kovach says the son told police he had been shot by a black man who had dreadlocks and was wearing red clothing. The son then refused to cooperate with police or answer any other questions.

The shooting remains under investigation, and detectives plan to obtain video surveillance footage from the liquor store.
