Bedford Woman Suffers Head Injury In Accident

Last updated on Monday, April 23, 2018

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman suffered a head injury after she crashed her Blazer Sunday morning into a building at Stone City Products.

Bedford Police officers were notified of the injured woman at the plant at 10:25 a.m.

According to a Bedford Police report, when officers responded to the plant on Seventh Street they met an employee that said the injured woman was inside the plant.

The woman, 75-year-old Tommie McSoley of Bedford, suffered a bleeding head injury, but couldn't tell police how she got injured or how she got to Stone City Products. She did tell police she was a diabetic.

Employees at the plant told police McSoley had told them earlier that she was in a vehicle but wasn't sure where the vehicle was and that it was possibly somewhere to the southeast of the factory

An IU Health Hospital ambulance crew responded and treated McSoley.

Police then began searching for her vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer. They located it on the east side of one of Stone City Products buildings. The vehicle had been driven through the external wall and it was still running. Officers turned off the vehicle and searched for anyone in the building - they found none.

Tracks in the gravel parking lot indicated McSoley had entered the lot from the north and turned gradually west leaving the gravel lot, going through a grassy area, jumping the concrete curb of a paved driveway and then colliding into the exterior wall of the building penetrating the building the length of the vehicle.

Police then returned to check on McSoley and were told McSoley's blood-sugar level was extremely low. McSoley refused to be transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her grandson responded to the factory and took her home.

McSoley's vehicle was dislodged from the building and towed by Mikel's Wrecker Service to their facility.
