Bedford Woman Arrested After Leaving Toddler In Car While Tanning

Last updated on Monday, April 23, 2018

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman was arrested Saturday night after Bedford Police say she left her toddler in a running vehicle while she went tanning.

Officers responded to Total Tan on M Street at 7:40 p.m. after a report of a toddler left unsupervised in a running vehicle.

"When officers arrived they found a sleeping toddler in a running white Ford with the doors locked," says Chief Dennis Parsley.

Officers then entered the business looking for the toddler's parent.

"The employee told police there was only one person tanning and that person was called to the front to speak with officers," says Chief Parsley. "The woman told police she didn't see a problem with leaving the child in the vehicle while she tanned."

Police arrested 20-year-old Shelby McClung of Bedford on a charge of neglect of a dependant.

Officers then alerted the Department of Child Services who released the child to a family member.
