Bedford Hiking Club Scenic Walk April 21 At Jackson-Washington State Forest

Last updated on Monday, April 9, 2018

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Hiking Club is sponsoring a scenic walk on Saturday, April 21 in Jackson-Washington State Forest.

The walk is part of a Volkswalk series of 5 and 10-kilometer walks that showcase some of Indiana's most scenic landscapes. A 10K walk is approximately 6.2 miles.

Walkers are asked to sign in for the walk between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday and should be finished by 4 p.m. Sign-in for the walk is at the White Oak Shelter House, adjacent to the Forest office. The walk is laid out on some of the Forest's most scenic trails.

Several unique features make this walk of interest. It winds through an old Civilian Conservation Corps Camp, where walkers can admire the stonework of those early masons, even walking down stone steps reminiscent of walking through time.

The walk crosses a long boardwalk through a marsh and has wonderful views of two lakes, following the shoreline of one lake and across the dam. The area has high narrow ridges with long views of the forest and valleys below. Most trails are easy to moderate but there are some short steep sections. Wildflowers are in bloom along the trail and a check point along the way offers refreshments.

Come join the Bedford Hiking Club for a walk on April 21st through southern Indiana hills in the spring. Jackson-Washington State Forest is located just east of the town of Brownstown.
