Next Level Road Project Underway Along I-65 In Southern Indiana

Last updated on Tuesday, March 13, 2018

(SEYMOUR) - Traffic signals are being installed on State Road 58 at ramps for Interstate 65 and at the State Road 58/International Drive intersection as preliminary work is now underway for the $143 million Next Level Roads project on Interstate 65 between Seymour and Columbus.

Indiana Department of Transportation officials anticipate operations near the Walesboro exit in Bartholomew County will continue for up to six weeks.

A caution light at the U.S. 31/S.R. 250 intersection is scheduled to be replaced with a traffic signal in the near future for use while the I-65 added travel lanes project is under construction.

Motorists may encounter brief delays where flaggers direct traffic around worksites.

Beginning March 14, contracted crews will remove and replace pavement markings on State Road 58 -- both eastbound and westbound -- between International Drive and Old Lane Drive. Lanes will be reduced to 11-foot widths while operations to widen pavement and construct right turn lanes at I-65 ramps take place. INDOT believes this pavement work will require approximately two weeks to complete.

E&B Paving is the state's prime contractor for this I-65 Southeast Indiana Best Value Project designed to completely reconstruct I-65 as a six-lane roadway between U.S. 50 and State Road 58 and repair/resurface I-65 from State Road 58 to the State Road 46 exit at Columbus.

A formal groundbreaking ceremony will be April 6.
