Monroe County Domestic Violence Coalition Invites Public To Spring Conference

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Monroe County Domestic Violence Coalition (MCDVC) is holding its 2018 Spring Conference on Thursday, March 22 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church (100 State Rd. 46).

Registration is from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. and the conference, with the theme Ending Violence Together, will run from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. In addition to the opening plenary that describes a survivor's journey, there will be a dozen workshops on domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking with presenters from all over the state.

Workshop topics include bystander intervention, trauma informed care/abuse prevention in disability services, lethality assessment, blind spots in service, domestic violence and brain injury, strategies on serving deaf/hard of hearing domestic violence survivors, secondary victimization of domestic violence victims by the justice system, sexuality and teen dating abuse in diverse settings, using the theater of the oppressed in marginalized communities, batterers intervention, intersection of animal abuse and family violence, and labor trafficking.

The MCDVC is committed to improving the community's response to domestic violence issues through communication and coordination of services. Major projects of the Coalition include a semi-annual Domestic Violence Awareness Conference and the implementation and monitoring of an audit of our community's response to domestic violence.

Membership to the Domestic Violence Coalition is open to service providers, representatives from local communities of faith, and other organizations concerned with the elimination of domestic violence in our community.
