(JASPER) - A Loogootee father and his son are facing attempted murder charges after they alleged rammed a pickup truck and beat the driver.

Jasper Police arrested 46-year-old Travis Karns and his son, 21-year-old Brandon Karns of Odon, during the early morning hours of Feb. 22 after police received a call reported a vehicle was chasing another vehicle near the Hucks Convenience Store in Jasper.

Police say the pair allegedly rammed and disabled another vehicle and then beat the driver with clubs.

The Dubois Free Press reports that the pair were originally charged with felony offenses of aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, possession of meth and misdemeanor charges of leaving the scene of an accident, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The 23-year-old victim told police the Karns approached his truck at a high-rate of speed on Hoffman Drive near the Hucks station. The victim told police he was able to escape the pursuit by entering a rock alley behind Active Chiropractic and Rehabilitation.

While in the alley the victim's vehicle ran over a large piece of large concrete flattening one of the tires. The victim drove out of the alley and headed east on Hoffman Road and then south on US 231 where the Karns rammed his truck near McDonald's. The victim's truck went off the roadway causing damage to the landscaping.

The victim drove into the IGA parking lot, where the Karns again rammed the victim's truck. The chase continued from the IGA to Indiana Street where the Karnes continued to ram the victim's truck, until the tire fell off the truck disabling in the O'Reilly auto parts parking lot.

Police say the Karns got out of their vehicle with clubs and began beating on the victim's truck.

The victim told police Brandon Karns allegedly beat his feet with a metal club, while his father stuck him in the head with a wooden club.

The beating continued until two of the victim's friends showed up in another vehicle. The Karns fled the scene.

The victim and his friends told authorities they did not know the Karns.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and received two staples to close a laceration on the right side of his head.

The Karns are now facing charges of attempted murder, criminal confinement, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, battery with a deadly weapon, possession of meth, criminal recklessness, three counts of possession of an illegal substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
