Last updated on Tuesday, March 13, 2018

(COLUMBUS) - A police canine is being credited with the apprehension of a burglary suspect in Columbus.

Officers were called to investigate the burglary in the 3000 block of Lamplight Drive at about 4 a.m. Sunday.

When police arrived, they saw several items had been moved during the burglary and began checking the area for suspects.

A short time later, Officer Branch Schrader said his partner, Argo, began tracking near the mobile home. Argo picked up a scent and led his handler to a nearby vacant home. Underneath the home, Officer Schrader saw 20-year-old James Cramer, who matched the description of the male who allegedly fled the scene.

Cramer was arrested on a preliminary charge of burglary and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail.
