Closure Of Bean Blossom Bottoms Nature Preserve Delayed Because Of Soggy Weather

Last updated on Friday, March 30, 2018

(BEAN BLOSSOM) - The closure of Bean Blossom Bottoms Nature Preserve, first scheduled to begin March 26, has been delayed due to rainy weather and muddy conditions.

Anyone who wants to hike along with boardwalk is asked to use caution, due to the slick boards, and to dress appropriately for the weather.

Abby Henkel, communications director for Sycamore Land Trust, says portions of the boardwalk are under a lot of water. Bean Blossom Bottoms Nature Preserve is off North Woodall Road in northern Monroe County.

As soon as the ground is dry enough, Henkel says they will start removing the front section of the current boardwalk trail in preparation to replace it with a new, durable, non-slip plastic boardwalk. The rear section of trail will be maintained as-is to preserve the trail loop.

For safety, Beanblossom Bottoms will be closed for the duration of the project.

Because of the unpredictable springtime weather, the first phase the tear-out will be delayed until the ground is dry enough, which is unknown at this point. Henkel appreciate the public's patience as Vectren crews, who have volunteered their time, to make this popular preserve an even better place to visit in the future.

Updates will be share the project progresses. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to visit another of the publicly-accessible nature preserves.

If you enjoy the trail, please become a Sycamore member or make an extra donation toward the trail maintenance fund.
