Friday Afternoon Last Time To Comment On Purchase Of Armored Vehicle

Last updated on Thursday, March 22, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton says most of the public comments city officials have received are in favor of the controversial decision to purchase an armored vehicle for the Bloomington Police Department’s Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).

City officials are accepting public comment online and by phone until 5 p.m. Friday.

All comments from the five recent public meetings and all additional sources will be gathered and considered prior to Mayor John Hamilton making an announcement about the potential purchase. Hamilton says he will announce the city's plan for the vehicle purchase by the end of March.

Those interested in learning more about the vehicle or making online public comment are encouraged to go to bloomington.in.gov/CIRT-Public-Record by 5:00 p.m. March 23 or by calling the Office of the Mayor at (812) 349-3406.

"Ultimately our commitment is to reach a decision that is appropriate for Bloomington and the public safety of all our residents, visitors, students, and public safety officers," stated Mayor Hamilton.
