Last updated on Wednesday, March 21, 2018

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he crashed a pickup truck into a house in the 1620 block of G Street on Monday night.

Bedford police arrested 26-year-old Michael Gillespie of Bedford on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident.

According to a Bedford Police report, Gillespie was traveling south on G Street and approaching the intersection of 17th and G streets in a 1999 General Motors pickup truck.

Gillespie told police the throttle got stuck and he lost control of the truck and proceeded to strike a house at 1621 G Street.

One of the tenants, Jerrilyn Bennett, called police at 7:24 p.m. to report a red truck had struck the building and then fled. No residents were injured during the incident. The apartment building is owned by Mike Guaffinet.

Gillespie then fled the scene. His girlfriend arrived at the scene of the accident and told police Gillespie had drove the truck to Lineal Contracting, Inc. at 4060 Mitchell Road and was now at their home on G Street.

Police went to the business and found the truck and it was towed. Another officer went to speak to Gillespie.

Gillespie admitted to fleeing the scene and had been drinking prior to the accident.

He was arrested without incident.
