Trial Of Accused Murder Suspect Postponed

Last updated on Wednesday, February 28, 2018

(SALEM) - The trial for accused murder suspect Joshuah Rainbolt has been rescheduled for April 3rd in Washington Circuit Court at 8:30 a.m.

The trial was to begin on Tuesday, March 6th.

According to court records, on February 1 the two sides met with Judge Larry Medlock and set Feb. 15th for a pretrial conference to discuss the plea agreement and set a "hard" date for the change of plea. But on Feb. 15 the court records state that no plea agreement was reached and a new trial date was set.

Rainbolt is being represented by Salem attorney Mark Clark, while Dustin Houchin is prosecuting the case for the state.

According to a Washington Circuit Court probable cause affidavit, 21-year-old Rainbolt admitted to police he shot his roommate, 20-year-old Blake Box-Skinner, in the back of the head with a shotgun at their home in Campbellsburg.

He then moved Box-Skinner's body to an outbuilding behind the home at 10609 W. Lost River Road and placed the body under a washing machine. Rainbolt told police he then drove to the Ft. Ritner Bridge off White River Road and threw the shotgun into the White River.

State Trooper Jonathan Cain, who is Box-Skinner's uncle, had visited the home with Blake's parents - Carol Box and Derek Skinner. The family were concerned because they had not heard from their son in several days and had reported him missing.

When they arrived, the parents entered the home and found their son's phone inside and knew something was wrong. Trooper Cain then checked outbuildings on the property and discovered the body.

Police then contacted Rainbolt by phone and asked him to come in for an interview. Police say he then admitted to killing Blake.

On January 12th, police arrested Rainbolt on charges of murder and a felony charge of obstruction of justice.

Police have not released a motive for the murder.
