Quilt Barn Square Workshop Sign Up Deadline Approaching

Last updated on Tuesday, February 13, 2018

(BEDFORD) - Sign up now for a workshop on the evenings of March 20 and 21 to design and paint a wooden barn quilt square. The two-part workshop will be from 6-9 p.m. at Wilson Shelter House.

A barn quilt square trail was developed for Indiana's bicentennial in 2016, and this year, the hope is to expand the number of quilt squares in the county for the Lawrence County Bicentennial.

Participants can select a pattern and color scheme from several choices and instructors will assist in completing the quilt square to take home. Instructors experienced in making these squares, will have done much of the pre-work, and will help participants complete their squares. The workshops should be fun and everyone takes home a quilt barn square that hopefully will be hung on their property.

Wilson Park is an indoor shelter house so will be comfortable regardless of the weather. It is located at 2211 Denson Avenue in Bedford.

Registration is limited to 24 participants on a first come-first serve basis.

Registration is $25 and participants may choose to make either a 2'x2' or 4'x4' square for that price. If another size is desired, please let us know. People making the larger 4'x4' squares need to make sure they have a way to get them home.

Depending on the complexity of the square the painting will be nearly complete at the end of the workshop, but all participants will go home with the knowledge to finish their project. All materials and supplies for the workshop will be provided.

The Ace Hardware/ Ben Franklin store in Mitchell and Lowe's in Bedford generously donated some materials to defray workshop costs.

For more information contact Teena Ligman at (812) 278-0139. To register, contact Lawrence County Tourism at (812) 849-1090, or at 533 W Main Street, Mitchell, IN. Payment of $25 must be received to confirm your registration.

Deadline for registration is March 1 to give instructors time to prepare the squares. Participants will be asked to choose the size of square they intend to make, and a design and color scheme when they register. Suggested choices are found on: https://www.facebook.com/lawrencecountybicentennial/

The first 24 people who register will be locked in, but a waiting list will be started and a second class may be held later in the spring. Call Teena at (812) 278-0139 or email tdligman@att.net for more information.
