Last updated on Tuesday, February 6, 2018

(BEDFORD) - Quentin Voigtschild, a 6th grade home school student, was named the 44th Annual Lawrence County Spelling Bee Champion after spelling the word ‘revision’ correctly in round 5.

Quentin said that he studied for about 6 hours for this competition.

Quentin won a $100 cash prize provided by Bedford Federal Savings Bank and a pizza party provided by Marcos Pizza. His favorite pizza is pepperoni and cheese and he also said that he plans to save his winnings.

Emma Salzmann, an 8th grader representing Oolitic Middle School, was named the 2nd place finisher. She misspelled the word 'benign' in round 5 allowing Voigtschild the chance to win.

Andrew Wagnon, an 8th grader representing Mitchell Jr. High, was named the third place finisher. He made it to the 4th round when he misspelled the word 'recant'.

Quentin will move on to the Ford Motor Company Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM. The Ford Motor Company Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee showcases Kentucky and Southern Indiana's top spellers in a suspenseful competition that leaves only one standing. The top five finishers receive savings bonds from the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation, while the overall champion gets to ride on the Winner's Float in the Republic Bank Pegasus Parade.

Emma will represent Lawrence County, should Champion Quentin not be able to attend the Kentucky Derby Festival on Saturday March 17,2018.

Quentin's sister, Amber, won the Lawrence County Spelling be in 2017 and went on to take 2nd place at the Ford Motor Company Spelling Bee. Amber is the oldest, Quentin is second oldest and the two have a set of younger triplet siblings.

Quentin said he is excited to move on to the Ford Motor Company Spelling Bee.

"My sister, Amber, went last year and its really big!"
