(UNDATED) - The Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) has launched a State of the Child Campaign with a series of events across Indiana that will provide data on how children are faring compared to their peers across the state and nation and offer data-informed solutions for some of the most pressing issues facing Hoosier children.
At least a dozen presentations are being scheduled for the campaign, and communities are invited to contact IYI to host a local State of the Child event.
Each local State of the Child presentation will be based on findings from IYI's recently published 2018 Indiana KIDS COUNT Data Book. The 24th annual book presents data on child well-being in the areas of health, safety, economics, education, and families and communities. A spotlight begins each section to raise awareness of and outline solutions for important issues affecting children. This year's Data Book includes more data comparisons between Indiana and the U.S. and presents greater levels of data disaggregated by race and ethnicity, providing richer detail into how various groups of Hoosier children fare compared to their peers.
The State of the Child Campaign kicked off Feb. 7 in Evansville with a second event in Muncie.
A high point of the State of the Child campaign will be Gov. Eric Holcomb proclaiming Feb. 15 as the "Day of the Child" in Indiana.
IYI will present a State of the Child that day at the Indiana Statehouse.
Other events are scheduled for Feb. 20 in Chandler and Wabash, Feb. 24 in Kendallville, March 1 in Brookville, March 2 in New Albany, March 6 in Marion, March 8 in Lafayette, March 16 in Williamsport, March 26 in Columbus, April 6 in Carmel, and April 24 in Marengo.

The Indiana Youth Institute produces the Data Book as part of a national network of state-level projects coordinated and supported by the Annie E. Casey Foundation (AECF). The data are compiled from national and statewide sources. Some data from this book also will be included in AECF's national KIDS COUNT Data Book, which provides state-by-state comparisons of child well-being and will be released later this year.
