(BEDFORD) - A former Orleans Junior Senior High School teacher died from his injuries after a tree fell on him Sunday.

According to Sheriff Mike Branham, 76-year-old Ron Toppe died at the scene after a tree fell on him in the 100 block of Rockwood Drive.

A passing motorist noticed the fallen tree and a truck blocking the roadway at 5:50 p.m. The driver gout out to investigate and found Toppe and called 911.

Police say Toppe was clearing trees with a chainsaw when the tree split and fell back striking him.
