Last updated on Monday, February 12, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested Friday evening on a charge of sexual battery.

At 5:40 p.m., Bloomington Police arrested Eric Wood, 29, of 523 N. Lincoln St., on a preliminary charge of sexual battery. He was booked into the Monroe County Jail where he is being held without bond.

According to police, a 23-year-old woman came to the Bloomington Police Department on Thursday afternoon to report a man she knew had assaulted her at her apartment.

She told police Wood had been drinking Jim Beam whiskey straight from the bottle before the assault happened.

She told police the two were sitting on a couch together when Wood allegedly placed his hand on her leg. He then allegedly tried to persuade her to have sex with him.

The woman told police she told Wood "no" several times.

Wood then touched her vaginal area outside of the clothes and then attempted to put his hand down her shirt. The woman told police she pushed him away and told him to stop.

But Wood then began touching her breasts outside of her shirt. When she attempted to stand up and tried to get Wood to leave her apartment, he allegedly placed her hands on his groin area.

Wood eventually left the apartment.

Police located him on Friday. Wood admitted he had been drinking and the last thing he remembered was touching the woman's leg.

He was arrested without incident and transported to jail.
