State Road 58 To Close In May For Culvert Replacements

Last updated on Wednesday, January 24, 2018

(LAWRENCE CO.) - Indiana Department of Transportation officials met with design engineers and contractor representatives Monday morning at Seymour District offices to review plans for removing and replacing two drainage structures on State Road 58 between Heltonville and State Road 446 in Pleasant Run Township.

Ragle Inc. is the state's contractor for this $461,365 small structure replacement project.

The Newburgh contractor plans to remove the existing S.R. 58 structure that carries Leatherwood Creek - located 2.56 miles east of S.R. 446 at Zelma - in mid-May. Operations will require a 30-day closure. A new 4-sided concrete box culvert measuring 16 X 4-feet, 42 feet in length, should be in place by mid-June.

When S.R. 58 reopens at Zelma, it will close 1.65 miles east of Heltonville for a second structure replacement. The contract calls for installation of a 3-sided concrete box culvert measuring 10 X 6-feet, 56 feet in length, to carry a tributary to Leatherwood Creek. The east-west highway will close at this site for 30 days.

County road detours will be posted prior to each S.R. 58 closure. The highway has a traffic count of 530 vehicles per day.

INDOT officials anticipate clearing activities at both structure locations in February. Motorists may encounter flagging operations at work sites early next month.
