Washington County Prosecutor's Office Announces New Employees

(SALEM) - The Washington County Prosecutor's Office is starting 2018 with a few new faces.

Prosecutor Dustin Houchin, who is serving his 11th year in office, says turnover occurred over the last few months of 2017, creating the vacancies.

Houchin told the Salem Leader his staff works each case as a unit.

But each have cases they focus on.

Houchin concentrates on crimes against people.

Mark Wynn is the new chief deputy and concentrates on cases involving property and traffic incidents.

Wynn came to the prosecutor's office from private practice, but he has several years' experience working in the Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office, where he served as chief deputy. He is a 1993 graduate of Butler University and earned his law degree from Indiana.

Tara Hunt is third deputy, who oversees cases involving drugs and alcohol offenses. Tara (Coats) Hunt is a Salem native who graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 2003. She and her husband, Chris, moved back to Salem in 2009. From 2013 through January 2016, she had a private partnership practice. She and Chris have two young sons, Gavin and Grayson. When not attending her sons' sporting events, she is busy with the county bar association and as chair of the county's Republican party.

Ben Leatherbury is working on a part-time basis in the child support division, handling child support cases. Staff members Jan Moore, Lisa Thompson and Amelia Voyles prepare the cases and Leatherbury handles all court procedures.

Other familiar faces include:

  • Ashley Miller, Megan Cissna and Tawny Bottorff office staff members.
  • Shawna Gorman Adult Protective Services director.
  • Adult Protective Service investigator Jimmy Strange, Case Manager Lisa Martin and assistant Tera Chastain.
