Public Invited To Coffee With A Cop Event Saturday At Holts, Public Asked To Complete Survey

Last updated on Friday, January 5, 2018

(JUDAH) - The public is invited to have a donut and a hot cup of coffee with Lawrence County police officers, detectives and Sheriff Mike Branham on Saturday at Holts Cafe on Old State Road 37.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. and last about an hour. There is no cost to attend and the coffee and donuts are free.

Sheriff Mike Branham says the goal of Coffee with a Cop is to build community relations.

Those attending can ask questions and voice concerns while officers will be asking questions to get community feedback.

"It will be a town hall -type forum," Sheriff Branham says. "There will be an open exchange on what ever the public wants to talk about."

Sheriff Branham is hoping for a good turn out.

"If the turn out is good, we'll probably plan a few more events," he added.

Sheriff Branham implemented Coffee with a Cop in a partnership with Indiana University in the Sustainable Hoosier Communities program funded by a planning grant from the Lilly Endowment.

"Sustaining Hoosier Communities is a partnership between Lawrence County and Indiana University that will help our community with various projects that we have identified," Sheriff Branham added. "One project we would like to complete focuses on better understanding the needs in Lawrence County regarding mental health and addictions. We need your help for this project to be successful!"

The public is invited to complete the survey, which can be found online at https://goo.gl/ZuP23e.

"Paper copies of the survey will be made available. The survey will take you about 5 minutes to complete and your responses are completely anonymous," he added. "We will never be able to attach your name with your responses."

A survey will be presented to those that attend.

"We want to get a good representation of as many people as we can," Sheriff Branham added.

The second Coffee with a Cop event is set for Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Huron Volunteer Fire Department on Railroad Street in Huron.

The final two sessions will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Department on State Road 158 and Saturday, Jan. 27 at Farmers Market on U.S. 50 East.
