(NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY CRANE) - Naval Support Activity Crane is participating in a national, Navy-wide exercise referred to as Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield, today - Feb. 8.

"In order to ensure we are trained and prepared, we must exercise our forces and security processes," said Rear Adm. Jack Scorby, Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, in a video released this week. "Training and preparedness are critical to our mission readiness."

This is an annual exercise and not in response to any specific threat, added Scorby.

Throughout the back-to-back exercises, residents and those commuting on or near the installation may see an increase in activity and may also experience delays to include short-term gate closures.

"We have taken efforts to mitigate traffic congestion, but we are asking those traveling on or near NSA Crane to please be patient and plan accordingly," said CDR Timothy Powers, Commanding Officer, NSA Crane. "We will inform our workforce through our emergency alert system and social media of any potential delays as soon as they occur."

During the exercises, events occurring at various Navy installations will trigger response actions at NSA Crane, added Powers. Installation personnel may have to respond to active shooter, gate runner, or suspicious package scenarios aimed at testing the base's ability to respond.

"The goal is to ensure we are ready to respond quickly and appropriate should a threat arise," said Powers. "Only through routinely exercising our capabilities can we ensure our continued readiness as well as the safety and security of our workforce and our nation."
