Monroe County Central Emergency Dispatch Center Hiring Six New Telecommunicators

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Monroe County Central Emergency Dispatch Center is currently accepting applications for the position of Telecommunicator.

The department will be hiring six dispatchers.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Receives all incoming emergency and information related calls for City police, County police, City, Ellettsville police, Stinesville police, fire, all county fire departments, and IU Health Ambulance Service; gathers maximum amount of caller information in minimum amount of time, determines appropriate response, and dispatches field officers and other emergency personnel accordingly. Translates information in to a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system for proper and timely dissemination and recommendations.

EDUCATION

High school education or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities plus 18 months of additional training.

TRAINING/SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of area law enforcement demands and ability to effectively receive and dispatch calls both spoken and via computer terminals. Must be able to meet certain requirements for emergency pre-arrival medical (EMD) certification which include, but are not limited to, completion of a standards-approved EMD training course, ability to obtain and maintain current CPR certification, ability to quickly identify the seriousness of a problem providing real-time CPR and life-sustaining first aid instructions, knowledge of emergency medical terminology, and compliance to national-standards protocol. Must be able to translate information quickly into and through different computer systems. Working knowledge of and ability to use all communications radio frequencies. Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other officials and agencies during varied emergency situations. Must be able to become IDACS (Indiana Data and Communications System) certified. Ability to read and comprehend maps and provide clear and concise directions to various entities. Ability to use emergency code terminology and clearly and calmly respond during stressful situations. Ability to appropriately receive, maintain and log all emergency and non-emergency related calls. Ability to type and use standard office equipment, including computer terminal, typewriter, magnetic tape recorder, and digital alarm equipment.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum experience equivalent to over one year through three years.

SALARY

$36,872 - $47,934
