(BEDFORD) - Safety experts agree the single most important step toward ensuring your personal safety is making the conscious decision to Refuse To Be A Victim.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department is hosting a free Refuse To Be A Victim crime prevention seminar on February 22 at 5 p.m. in the department's training room.

"You stand a much better chance of preventing criminal attack if you develop a safety plan before you need it," says Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults. "That is why the Refuse To Be A Victim crime prevention seminar was developed. It is a program of the National Rifle Association."

The seminar teaches easy-to-understand methods people can use to increase awareness and prevent criminal confrontation.

In just four hours, individuals will learn tools needed to develop their own personal safety strategy, including information about:

  • The Psychology of the Criminal Mind
  • Home & Phone Security
  • Automobile & Travel Security
  • Personal & Technological Security
  • Self-Defense Devices
  • Training Options
  • And more

You MUST register for this class no later than February 18. To register, send your Name, Address and Phone number to Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults by e-mail: ashoults@lawrencecounty.in.gov. Registration forms are also available at the Sheriff's Department, or call Chief Shoults at (812) 277-2030 to register by phone.
