Three Arrested After Drug Investigation In Martin County

(MARTIN CO.) - The Martin County Sheriff's Office reports a drug investigation led to the arrests of three people Saturday and early Sunday morning at three separate locations in Martin County.

Arrested were 37-year-old Rocky McClure of Loogootee, 36-year-old Cary Clifton of Shoals and 34-year-old Juan Avalos of Huntingburg.

All three are facing charges of dealing, or conspiracy to deal meth, possession of meth, and various other drug related offenses. Avalos was also charged with Possession of a handgun without a Permit.

According to police late Saturday afternoon, Sheriff Roush and Chief Deputy Joshua Greene conducted a controlled buy of narcotics in a rural area of Martin County, East of Loogootee.

Acting on information from that controlled buy led three members of the Sheriff's Office to a hotel in Loogootee. A consent to search was given for the room, which led to the arrest of Mclure,by Deputy Cody Shinn. Acting on information from that arrest, officer went to a Shoals gas station.

Three plain clothes officers set up surveillance. Police say Clifton arrived in a pick-up truck to sell meth. The buyer entered Clifton's truck and they traveled to a Shoals liquor store where the transaction was completed. The buyer exited the vehicle, and Clifton attempted to leave the liquor store parking lot, when uniformed and plain clothes officers intercepted him. Clifton was arrested by Deputy Cody Shinn, without incident, late Saturday night.

A few hours later, early Sunday morning, Sheriff Roush and Chief Deputy Joshua Greene conducted another interdiction in a rural part of Martin County, east of Loogootee, which led to the arrest of Avalos. During the arrest, more than 11 grams of meth and nearly 70 grams of marijuana was recovered, along with a semi-automatic pistol hidden in a backpack belonging to Avalos.
