Horse Saved After Falling Through Ice

Last updated on Friday, January 5, 2018

(PEKIN) - Just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, the Washington County Sheriffs Department received a telephone call regarding a horse that had partially fallen through the ice on a farm pond on Voyles Road about a mile south of State Road 60.

Sheriff Roger Newlon, Pekin Town Marshal Jeff Thomas, the Indiana State Police and members of the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.

Firefighters were able to assist the owners of the horse and remove the horse from the pond. The horse was able to stand on its own, shortly after being rescued from the pond.

A veterinarian service was called to the farm to examine the horse for possible injuries.
