(UNDATED) - The government shutdown has impact 58 national parks including Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge on US 50 East in Seymour.

The doors of the office and visitors center at Muscatatuck have been closed after the government shut down at 12:01 a.m. Saturday. Anything that will involve having to have an employee there will not be functioning. Three of the six employees will not work until an agreement is reached. One employee, a law enforcement officer and a maintenance man will be required work without pay and will be compensated if and when Congress passes an extension.

The refuge is still open for hunting, fishing and hiking, and driving routes to view the refuge also remain open.

Administration officials are exploring ways to keep parks open and let visitors come in without government personnel.
