(LOOGOOTEE) - Daviess County Councilman Mike Sprinkle questioned the commissioners about steps to lessen the damage done to paved county roads by horse shoes.
Daviess County officials say steel horseshoes on horse teams used by the region's large Amish population are damaging newly paved roads.
Daviess County Councilman Mike Sprinkle says the county spent $1.2 million last fall to pave roads that are now damaged. He says county officials need to find a solution.
The Commissioners said nothing had been done since some initial meetings with the Amish Community.
The Commissioners reported the Amish are firmly against using rubber horseshoes and prefer using a redesigned thinner metal horseshoe.
The Commissioners agreed to hold more meetings with the Amish to address the damage to the county roads.
