Camper Fire Sends One to Hospital, One to Jail

(SULLIVAN) - A fire on Sunday sent a Cass-Dugger woman to the hospital and a male to jail.

According to a press release a Sullivan County Sheriff Department, firefighters and police were called to 7557 E. County Road 100 North at 12:18 p.m. to find a camper trailer engulfed in flames.

According to Sheriff Clark Cottom, 29-year-old Cara Vancil, suffered smoke inhalation and abrasions to her extremities. She was transported to the Greene County General Hospital.

A male resident, 41-year-old Justin Norris, was not injured, but was arrested after police say he was wanted on a warrant in Clay County for petition to revoke probation on a charge of dealing meth.

According to Union Dugger Department firefighters the fire started after a space heater overloaded on an extension cord.

Firefighters say both Vancil and Norris were asleep and woke after heavy smoke filled the camper. Vancil was able to escape through the front door. Norris escaped after breaking through a window.
