Last updated on Thursday, January 4, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police have arrested a second man in connection to an assault and burglary that sent a 33-year-old man to the hospital on Dec. 20.

The victim told police that he had been sleeping in a truck, owned by one of the three men who pulled him out of the vehicle and beat him up. They then drove him to the house of a relative, where they stole electronics and other valuables.

The victim was able to give the names of those who committed the crime.

At 11:05 p.m. Dec. 21, officers found 23-year-old Nathon Scott standing next to the Chevrolet truck believed to be used during the assault and robbery in the 1400 block of West 13th Street.

Officers found small pieces of broken glass in the bed of the truck, which matched the victim's story of having his head hit against the window of the truck's camper shell, causing it to break.

Scott told police the victim had borrowed $40 from him, but the victim had not paid him back and was angry about that. Scott told officers that he and the two men went to the truck where he had let the man sleep in and pulled him out. Scott told police that he and another man beat the victim with their fists while the third man used a pair of brass knuckles to beat the victim.

Scott told police he and the two men then forced the victim back into the truck and they drove to a house of the victim's relative where they took a television and an airsoft pistol.

Scott was arrested on preliminary charges of robbery, burglary, intimidation and kidnapping.

Police arrested a second suspect, 27-year-old Darius C. McCormick, at 3:45 Tuesday morning. He refused to speak to detectives.

McCormick was booked into the Monroe County Jail on preliminary charges of robbery, kidnapping, intimidation and burglary. His bond was set at $30,500.

The case remains under investigation.
