Bedford Man Arrested After Homeowner Shoots Him

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested on a warrant after police say he was shot outside of a home in November by the homeowner when attempting to break in.

Police arrested 21-year-old Dillon Burton of Bedford on Thursday on a felony warrant charging him with of attempted robbery. At the time of his arrest police found Burton with a drugs. He is now also facing charges of dealing in a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of Schedule IV controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance.

According to Bedford Police, on November 26 a male homeowner heard noises outside of his home in the 2400 block of M Street. The homeowner grabbed his gun and checked the back door. The homeowner found Dillon at the door in a ski mask and holding a large stick and he attempted to force his way inside the home. This frightened the homeowner and he yelled at Burton to back up, when he didn't he fired a shot. Burton was shot in the head and taken to Indiana University Bloomington Hospital for treatment.

Burton is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on a $50,000 surety or $5,005 cash bond.
