Two Men Arrested on Drug Charges

(MITCHELL) - Two men were arrested Thursday on drug charges after a traffic stop on Mundy Road In Mitchell.

Mitchell Police arrested 45-year-old Jay Lovins, of French Lick on charges of possession of meth, unlawful possession of a syringe, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a narcotic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia and 30-year-old of Joshua Ball, of Oolitic, on charges of possession of meth, unlawful possession of a syringe and visiting a common nuisance. He was also wanted on a warrant for petition to revoke probation.

At 3:23 a.m., a Mitchell Police Department officer was traveling on State Road 37, when a 2018 Nissan, moved over into his lane, cut him off and almost caused an accident.

The vehicle, which was a rental car, turned onto State Road 60 West and crossed over the center line. The officer pulled over the vehicle after turning onto Mundy Road.

Lovins, who was driving the car, told police he didn't have his license because his wallet had been stolen. Bell, who was a passenger, didn't have any identification.

Mitchell police canine Ldo alerted police to possible drugs in the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, police found a baggie that contained a glass smoking device with burnt meth residue, and a baggie containing a crystal substance that tested positive for meth. Police also found syringes.

Both Lovins and Bell were arrested.

Police found Lovins with a container with pills that he did not have a prescription for. Police also found $852 in cash.

Lovins is being held on a $20,000 surety or $2,005 cash. Ball has no bond because he was on probation at the time of his arrest.
