YMCA Of Monroe County And Indiana Department Of Child Services Work Together To Help Children In Need

Last updated on Friday, December 8, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) has teamed up with the YMCA of Monroe County to sponsor several children in need this holiday season. Strengthening the Monroe County community is part of the Y’s cause.

That's why the Y -- a leading nonprofit organization -- is honored to be a part of the opportunity to give back to children in need.

Working with several organizations across the state, the DCS organizes, facilities, and drives the gift donation for foster children.

This marks the second year the YMCA of Monroe County has participated in the gift drive. This year, the YMCA of Monroe County staff is sponsoring 25 foster children. Each participant of the gift drive is asked to give four to five gifts to their sponsored child. The YMCA of Monroe County is especially proud to have the Y Aerials gymnastics team sponsoring four of the 25 children.

"I asked our Aerials team to get involved in the drive, because I think it's important to be reminded that we are blessed," said Michelle Stroud, the gymnastics coordinator of the YMCA of Monroe County. "Giving back to those who are going through a difficult situation is a reminder of how lucky we are. Not everyone is with their family during the holidays or receiving gifts without some assistance from others."

"Our team of kids and their families have wonderful hearts, and they understand the importance of giving back," said Michelle. "Their response to this was tremendous, which was no surprise to me."
