Monroe County Residents Urged To Recycle Christmas Trees

Last updated on Wednesday, December 27, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - Christmas is over, and residents looking to dispose of live trees and wreaths have options this winter.

The Bloomington Sanitation Department will collect natural Christmas trees and wreaths from Jan. 2 to Jan. 18.

Residents interested in having the department haul away their trees should place them on the curb on regular yard waste collection days.

The ornaments, lights and other decorations must be removed from the trees and wreaths in order to be picked up at no extra cost.

The trees collected are usually chipped and reused around the city.

For those residents living outside city limits, can drop off their trees and wreaths off at one of five trash and recycling centers throughout the district during normal business hours.

The district's tree recycling program starts today and runs until Jan. 13.

Both the city and the district are not accepting artificial trees.
