Mitchell Woman Injured In Accident

Last updated on Monday, December 18, 2017

(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell woman suffered a possible fractured knee or lower leg after a two-vehicle accident at State Road 37 and Yockey Road on Thursday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 58-year-old Williams Evans of Bedford was traveling east across State Road 37 and Wesley Chapel Road in a 2007 General Motors Sierra. At the same time, 84-year-old Margaret Reynolds of Mitchell was traveling north on State Road 37 at the intersection of Yockey Road in a 1999 Ford Victoria.

Police say Evans failed to yield the right of way at the intersection, pulling out into the path of Reynolds' car.

Reynolds told police that her cruise control was set at 60 miles per hour when Evans' vehicle pulled into her path of travel.

Evans told police that he was attempting to beat the northbound traffic and didn't see Reynolds' car when he pulled out in front of her.

Evans was not injured during the incident.
