(BLOOMINGTON) - A methadone clinic is on track to open in Bloomington next year.
The state announced back in July that Monroe County will be one of five counties where medication-assisted treatment facilities will open in 2018. The treatment center will be led by Limestone Health, an entity of Sycamore Springs.
Limestone Health President Matthew Flynn told the Bloomington Herald Times they are finalizing a lease on a space in Bloomington, the details of which could be available within the next few weeks.
Once the five new clinics are opened, there will be 19 programs statewide with the ability to treat addiction by using drugs such as methadone. The state announced at the same time that those insured through the Healthy Indiana Plan, Indiana's Medicaid expansion, will have treatment with methadone included in their coverage.
Limestone Health plans to accept payments from Medicaid and private insurance.
Months of preparation went into the state's process of deciding in which communities these new methadone clinics will be located and who will run them, according to Flynn. But the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration didn't include local government representatives in those discussions.
Individual and group therapy will be required for all patients receiving medication-assisted treatment. Patients will also receive support they need to access services to support them with other aspects of their lives.
