Martinsville Man Arrested On Arson Charge

Last updated on Thursday, December 21, 2017

(MARTINSVILLE) - A Martinsville man is being charged with arson after investigators say he started a fire Sunday that destroyed his grandmother’s home at 90 W. Poston Road.

Police arrested 29-year-old Brian Davis on charges of arson resulting in bodily injury and criminal mischief.

When officers arrived on the scene, Davis' grandmother was outside of the burning house. She told police Davis might still be inside and he had been hallucinating the prior evening after taking meth.

The grandmother was transported to the IU Morgan emergency room, where she was treated for second degree burns to her fingers.

Martinsville Police officer Branson Lee found Davis in his stocking feet behind the home.

He was transported to the police department, where officers say he admitted to starting the fire after eating two grams of meth the day before.

Davis said the fire was started because he lit some paper with a lighter and placed it by the door to keep people from coming in, according to the police report.

When the fire got too big, Davis said he exited the home through a bedroom window. When asked why he didn't help his grandmother out of the house, Davis said "I don't know, guess I was scared of the fire and flames and all that," according to a police report.

Davis was transported to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation. While at the hospital Davis became involved in an altercation with another family member and police intervened. After being released, he was arrested.
