(MITCHELL) - Marion Township Volunteer firefighters were alerted after dispatchers received a 911 call that reported a burning barn with animals possibly inside at 649 Sportsman Club Road.

The fire was reported at 2:27 p.m.

Marion Township volunteer firefighters responded with Engine 53, Engine 51 and Squad 55 and Shawswick VFD firefighters were alerted to provide mutual aid.

Marion VFD Chief Paul Gillespie says, when the first Marion firefighters arrived they found a chicken coup on fire and all of the animals had been removed from the building.

"Shawswick was cancelled and all units were advised to slow their response," he added.

Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
