(UNDATED) - The Indiana Forest Alliance, a nonprofit, statewide organization of individuals concerned with the well-being of native forests in Indiana, has received the Organization of the Year award from the Hoosier Environmental Council.

The Hoosier Environmental Council is an Indiana environmental policy organization advocating for solutions for the economy and the environment, according to a release from the Hoosier Environmental Council.

The group received the award Dec. 2 at the Hoosier Environmental Council's 10th annual "Greening the Statehouse" forum, a gathering of environmental-minded citizens.

"With their successful work leading a community campaign to protect Crown Hill Woods, their wide-ranging, in-depth biological inventory of the Backcountry Area at Morgan-Monroe and Yellowwood State Forests, and their powerful grassroots response to the Indiana DNR's ill-conceived plan to log a part of the impressive mature hardwood forest in the Yellowwood Backcountry Area, the Indiana Forest Alliance has established itself as a determined defender of Indiana's forest lands as well as a convener of thoughtful scientific inquiry into the ecological and economic benefits of forest protection," says Tim Maloney, HEC's senior policy director.

"The Indiana Forest Alliance has established itself as a determined defender of Indiana's forest lands as well as a convener of thoughtful scientific inquiry into the ecological and economic benefits of forest protection," Maloney added.
