Former Eagle Pointe Golf Resort Owner Arrested For Check Deception

Last updated on Thursday, December 14, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The former owner of Eagle Pointe Golf Resort is facing seven charges of check deception.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Brad Swain, Doug Thomas was aware there was no money in the account when he was writing the bad checks.

Sheriff Swain says officers have been looking into the case for months after former employees contacted the department when their paychecks bounced.

According to court documents in a span from May to August Thomas wrote seven bad checks in the amount of $5,860.12.

The Herald Times reports, Thomas purchased the golf resort less than a year ago, then filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September. A judge converted the bankruptcy to Chapter 7, a liquidation bankruptcy, last month. A trustee now oversees the property, and a meeting to go over finances is set for Dec. 19.
