(WILLIAMS) - Volunteer firefighters used more than 9,000 gallons of water on Thursday night to douse a blaze that destroyed a home on Port Williams Road.

Huron, Indian Creek and Williams Volunteer Fire Departments were called to the blaze at 11:10 p.m. after the homeowner arrived home to find his house engulfed in flames. When firefighters arrived the home was almost burnt to the ground.

No one was injured in or while battling the blaze, but a dog and cat did die inside the home in the 500 block of Port Williams Road.

According to Huron Chief Bill Kinser the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but firefighters believe it started in the living room area and may have been caused by a phone charger that was left plugged in.
