(VALLONIA) - A fire destroyed the home of Vicki Dean on Thursday afternoon.

While working at the superintendent's office of Medora Community School Dean received a call saying the home she shares with her daughter Jessica Cobb and Cobb's nine children ages 5 to 16 was destroyed by a fire.

A neighbor, who drives a bus for Brownstown Central Community School Corp., was walking toward his bus on Old Babe Road when he noticed the two-story log home engulfed in flames.

The fire destroyed the home and the family's 15-passenger van and killed the family dog who was inside the home.

Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze at 1:45 p.m. and remained at the home until 10:30 p.m. Driftwood and Carr township volunteer fire departments in Jackson County, Salem Fire and Washington, Gibson and Jefferson Township in Washington County assisted at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters were called back at 11:30 a.m. Friday after the fire rekindled.

The family stayed with Dean's son, who lives nearby, on Thursday night. This weekend, they moved into a temporary home made available by a bishop at their church, Medora Pentecostal Church.

A GoFundMe account was set up to help the family with expenses. People can also donate at the State Bank of Medora to the Jessica Cobb Fire Fund or take donations to the school superintendent's office.

Donations of food, clothing, bedding, furniture, dishes and other items may be dropped off at Medora Pentecostal Church.
